Shaakira is one of the three recipients of the 2016 “Trooper Clearance Jolivet” Scholarship. She attends Cholla High Magnet School, and will be graduating this May. After moving to Cholla her Sophomore year Shaakira knew that was the place for her. Although it was bigger than her last school it did not intimidate her. Here she got to know and connect with her teachers, staff members, and classmates.
While at Cholla Shaakira participated in the International Baccalaureate Program, was captain of the cheer team, on the yearbook committee, and a member of Breakaway Excel Club which was created to promote a drug and alcohol free life. Outside of school she facilitates peace dialogue circle and is the President of the Tucson NAACP Youth and College Chapter.
She is a very open minded person, always lending an ear to new ideas and thoughts. She is never afraid to stand up for what she believes in and help others when need. Her words to live by are “ If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, because how could anyone know the feeling of success without knowing how it feels to fail.”
In the fall Shaakira will be attending the University of Arizona to study Psychology.
